Members of the NOAH social clubs in Khayelitsha are struggling to support themselves and their dependents on their monthly social pension on R1080. After experimenting with a number of income generating schemes (knitting beanies, papier mache bowls, sewing aprons) we thought of soap as a suitable product to address this need. It requires little skill and experience and has low start up costs.
Since late last year members of the clubs have been making soap with natural ingredients, in pretty shapes and with pleasant scent to sell and so create an additional income for themselves and their families, many of whom are affected by HIV/AIDS.
