Ikamva Labantu ('the Future of our Nation') is a South African non-profit, non-governmental organisation. It traces its roots back to the days of apartheid, when its founder Helen Lieberman, started working with women in the poverty-stricken townships around Cape Town.
Ikamva Labantu works through local communities so that they can become self-sufficient and sustainable. It focuses its efforts on the following services:
• Health interventions at the primary level
• Education & skills development
• Food security & enterprise development
• Building community infrastructure, including securing land and buildings

Grandmothers Against Poverty and AIDS
In October 2001 GAPA started as a self help project in Khayelitsha, outside Cape Town, South Africa. GAPA’s intervention has a two pronged approach. Workshops are held each month for grandmothers were they learn about HIV infection and AIDS. Practical skills to overcome effects of the pandemic on households are taught. The workshops cover topics such as vegetable gardening, human rights, elder abuse, accessing social grants, drawing up a will and business skills. Grandmothers are also invited to attend support groups held in area representatives homes once a week.

The South African Older Persons’ Forum is a legal entity that comprises of numerous organizations and individuals, including older persons, from all sectors in the field of ageing established in an effort to unify the voice of older persons in South Africa.

It has been instrumental in drafting the Older Persons’ Charter and engages with National government and relevant organisations on a variety of issues affecting older persons in an effort to make a difference to the lives of all the older persons in South Africa.
